The Greenway Album Review

"The Greenway" an album by Jantzonia
Hosted by DJ NEW Reign

On Friday, January 13th, Jantzonia’s “The Greenway” was released to the public. This is Chester Copperpot’s 3rd release, which followed Racoons on Chestnut Street and Law of Attraction. I was first introduced to “The Greenway” via a live set at “The Office” in Bismarck, which is a skatepark by day and a venue by night. I was amazed at the lyrical ability and style in which Jantz delivers in his punchlines. Since snaggin' the physical copy, I have been amazed at how this album has grown on me--- from the diversity of songs and topics he covers, to the story he tells of an artist staying independent, while trying to milk the system for everything that its got.

“Chronically injured sinful indigo child
Your culture is ultra but I ain't into your
Style…” (Memory Drawer)

The production on this joint is hot. Jantz raps on everything from Funk to Trap and shows his diversity through introspection on “Lost (feat. Young Navy & Beezus)” and he kills most rappers on that hyphy, trap-type of rap on tracks like “Ready For This” and “Too Much”. The dudes gonna be doing this for a longtime with no signs of slowing down.

“Truest movements move in silence till they're ready to expand
Fluid spewing from the violence and there’s really no extent” (Ready For This
feat. Heavy Lawd & Dank Sinatra)

For this album, Jantz paired up with New Reign as the host and his comedic and movie preferences bleed through with symbolic sampling of “The Goonies” and “Pulp Fiction”. This album should be listened to at high volumes, whether you’re cruising around your hometown solo, or at a party with a grip of people! His style is never tired, and his prevalence in the hip-hop game will not be short lived.

“A 47 holy reverends holding leverage with golden balance
Sip a beverage from a golden Chalice
Northward heading to the golden palace” (Scooby)

With just twelve tracks Jantzonia and DJ New Reign take you on an adventure from his “Memory Drawer” and finally reminds you to “Dig Deep” on the last track. Jantz’s message is crisp, empowering, and complex. I know hip-hop heads are going to love “The Green Way”.

I could sit back and annotate his lyrics for days, but music is unique to the listener and the perspective and that’s what the “Genius App” is for. So, in the words of Doc Mcfly himself, “Just sit back, Relax, Rewind, and Press Play!” Keep 'em comin Jantz!

P.S. When's there going to be a Zen People album?
